China began the 37th Antarctic expedition as Chinese research icebreaker Xuelong 2 set off from Shanghai on November 10, 2020. The PhD student MA Yuanyuan from CACSM went along with the expedition team.
MA Yuanyuan will carry out research tasks including operation and maintenance of Polar Atmosphere Lidar Observation System and GNSS Tracking Stations, through the winter in the Antarctic Zhongshan Station, and plans to return on April 2022.
